Currently I'm an appointed editor for the artist's fanzine Reptilhjärnan (Reptile Brain) by the artist himself, Klas Eriksson. The dynamics of the fanzine is that the artist appoints a curator/writer/critic for each volume which in turn has a different theme - but all circulates somehow around the artist. All are welcome to submit contributions, may it be texts, images, a joke, a drawing etc. and the theme I'm in charge for is "Art & Institution". Our joint experience from an exhibition (High on Low-Life) in Skien, Norway where an art work by Eriksson, LOLERZ (+ +) in February this year had a life of it's own outside the exhibition itself as it gained a lot of public rage - as well as appraisal - and became a landmark for the exhibition and the Telemark Kunstsenter which hosted the exhibition (curated by me). The many reactions and "letters to the editor" in the local newspaper - including from the Minister of Education in Norway will be included in the fanzine, but we are welcoming all other texts and suggestions which relates to the theme Art & Institution. We would like to include reactions, ideas, proposals, drawings, reflections and non-reflections and whatever for the fanzine which will have its release at the finissage of the Kjartan Slettemark exhibition at Kulturhuset, Stockholm in September.
Not entirely unrelated to all this, I was chatting with a friend (artist) yesterday I proclaimed myself as a "loser-curator" and my friend declared himself a "loser-artist". I came up with the idea to curate a show named BIGGEST LOSER and to have an open call for the artists who wants to join (just like how they do it on television). I don't have a venue yet, nor do I have a budget, for this idea, but I do have a pretty good idea about how to frame it. I would love to have Jan Christensen's wall-painting I WILL NEVER MAKE IT (2000) (shown above installed in both Kunstraum D21 in Leipzig and at Kunstnernes Hus in Oslo) in the show. I will post the open call in the Reptilhjärnan fanzine of course!
So. Are you, just like myself, exhausted of all the exhibitions which proclaims themselves to be "the next big thing!" of "young and emerging" artists that are already so successful it hurts every time they fart, just because they are trying to fart larger than what their assholes actually can produce? (Uruguayan proverb) These exhibitions brand themselves (or the curator brand the exhibitions) to be younger and more emerging by the hour it seems, and even though the words "hip" or "trendy" are banned from the press-release, we all know too well that this is what they intend the exhibition to be.
So, artists out there: any takers? I will be accepting proposals here on my blog right away, and also of course, generous funding and offers about available hosting spaces are accepted too below. I'm also accepting submissions for Reptilhjärnan. Use the form below! (DEADLINE for Reptilhjärnan August 23rd!!)
Yey, can't you feel the looser within you, begging to come out? Are you the biggest loser of them all?
PS: NO fees for submissions will be payed.
