CurExRes/CER: A Curator Exhibition Residency Programme

Our next Curator-in-residence, Lorena Moreno Vera, was selected through an open call, and is a collaboration with the Austrian Ministry of Culture and KÖR Kunst im öffentlichen raum im Wien, Austrian Embassy in Sweden and SWAN - Swedish Artist Residency Network. Lorena Moreno Vera will stay in Stockholm between September 1st and October 30th and visit Oslo, Västra Götalandsregionen and Region Norrbotten during her stay.

Lorena Moreno Vera is an interdependent curator based between Vienna and Mexico City. Her practice unfolds at the intersection of art, environment, and lore, exploring natural phenomena and physiological functions through feminist theory, philosophy of science, literature, ecology, and traditional knowledge. Sound plays a vital role in her work—not only as a medium but as an elemental force that shapes perception, memory, and presence. She is particularly drawn to its physical and psychical effects, its resonance through bodies and landscapes, and its capacity to bridge temporalities and epistemologies. Holding an MA in Critical Studies from the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna, she has collaborated with institutions and festivals across Mexico, Austria, Spain, Switzerland, and Australia, including Museo Jumex, Museo Tamayo, Tangente St. Pölten, Kunstraum Niederoesterreich, Sonic Acts, and the Museum of Old and New Art (MONA) in Tasmania. She is also a member of laschulas, a multidisciplinary collective committed to research, community collaboration, and environmental awareness through sound and situated knowledge.

The main concept of CER is that a curator gets to engage in the local art life in a Swedish city over a longer period, connect with artists and have time to reflect - and ideally have the possibility of curating an exhibition or at least give a talk at the end of their stay. The framework for the exhibition or presentation (spaces, budget, technology) will be different for each residency. Each curator residency is tailor maid from the interests of the individual curator.

The residency is flexible in time but ideally the curator stays for at least one, two, or three months long and is intended for the curator to engage with the local art scene and meet its artists, but also to take time to do research, studio visits and spend time on own terms.

CER is developed in collaboration with Swedish Curator’s Association and has prevously hosted two curators, Awa Konaté (Denmark/Ivory Coast) and Farida Youssef (Egypt).

Awa Konaté / Culture Art Society was in a Curator-in-Residence in collaboration with SITE Zones at NKF, Nordiska Konstförbundet 2023 and CER supported by Region Stockholm, and the residency resulted in an exhibition at SITE Zones. Konaté stayed for one month in the center of Stockholm. Konaté also held a talk together with curator Samuel Girma at NKF at the end of her stay.

Farida Youssef is involved in a long-term curatorial exchange project between Egypt and the Nordic countries named Cultivating Curating, with is partnering with the Swedish Curator’s Association, CuratorLab Stockholm (curatorial programme at Konstfack College of Art and Design), Index Foundation Stockholm, Something Else art festival in Egypt and Ard Art Institution in Cairo. Youssef stayed for one week at the end of 2024, visiting Stockholm and Malmö and gave a talk in Malmö hosted and was fully funded by Iaspis, International Programme for Visual and Applied Arts, through an invitation by Power Ekroth/CER.

The host and founder of CER is Power Ekroth.

CER is a member of SWAN.
